LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE
Lymphatic drainage is the lightest work I do, and that lightness is the technique performed correctly. I am Geri León, a solo board-certified massage therapist in Castro Valley. The vessels this work addresses sit just under your skin, so I stretch the skin itself in slow, ordered strokes and leave the muscle beneath it alone. If your hands feel puffy by afternoon, or your ankles carry the day home with you, this is the session built for that kind of gentle support, and the touch stays that light from start to finish.
Why the Lightest Touch Is the Correct Touch
Your lymphatic network returns fluid from your tissues toward the bloodstream and helps your body hold its normal fluid balance. The vessels that collect that fluid run right beneath the surface, a small distance down, which is why my hands stay at the surface. Each stroke is a light, directed stretch of the skin, held for a moment and then released, one slow beat after another. Pressing harder does not reach this system any better; it simply moves the work down into muscle, which is a different session with a different purpose.
Where the First Strokes Go
Here is the part that surprises people: I may begin near the center of your body even when your concern sits at your ankles. Lymph has no central pump the way blood has the heart, so the fluid depends on open pathways ahead of it. I prepare the regions the fluid drains toward first, then work outward along the route, so each area I address has somewhere to send what follows. Every stroke moves in a set direction and a set order, and I can tell you the reason for each one before I make it.
What the Hour Looks Like
The session stays simple on your side. We talk first about why you came in and what you want from the hour, and I explain the route I plan to follow. You undress only to your comfort level, you stay draped the whole time, and I uncover just the area I am working. The pace holds unhurried from the first stroke to the last, and I check in early about how the contact feels on your skin. You can ask for a change at any point, and you are welcome to doze if the rhythm settles you.
What Light, Sequenced Work Can Support
Very light, sequenced strokes help move lymph fluid toward the pathways that are working, and that is the job this technique was built to do. The light, unhurried contact also supports relaxation, and the strokes keep one slow, steady rhythm from the first minute to the last. An area that feels heavy or puffy, gentle support for fluid movement, or simply the quietest hour on my table are all good reasons to book it. I watch how the skin yields under each stroke, and I adjust the route and the pace to what I find that day.
One Instruction Before You Book
Swelling that is new, unexplained, one-sided, warm, red, or changing quickly goes to your doctor first, because the right care depends on why the fluid is there. If you are recovering from a procedure, your surgeon's timing and restrictions lead, and I work within whatever they set. Bring those instructions with you and I will follow them exactly. Tell me when the swelling started and what your doctor or surgeon has said, and I will fold those answers into how we plan the session, from the regions I work first to the pace we keep.
If you want to know how light the touch is, what you wear, and how the hour goes before you book it, that is exactly the conversation I like to have. Tell me where the heaviness or puffiness shows up, and I can tell you where the first strokes would go for that concern and why the route starts where it does. When you call (510) 409-8598 you reach me directly, and we will decide together whether this is the right first step for you.
